Today we went to the school in Berenty village to give out 66 red books. Actually about half of the students weren’t in school today so we only gave out half. We also gave out the questionnaire and students were very serious in working out their answers. Everyone seemed to like their books and especially liked the official “Walker” stamp that was placed on the front inside cover. The children also watched the documentary and enjoyed the parts showing Berenty and the children jumping like lemurs. There was some confusion with the teacher and students because after the red books were given out and the documentary was watched the teacher said “last year you told us that you were going to bring a big surprise this year. Last year you brought school desks here so we thought it was really going to be a big surprise, so what is it?” Horrified is perhaps too strong a word, ha ha ha, but I was a bit worried because I was thinking “Did I really say that I was bringing a big surprise?” And the teacher and the students were all quiet, looking at me expectantly. I said “I’m sorry, I don’t remember saying that. And actually, the only two things I brought this year are the book and the documentary”. They seemed a little disappointed and I tried not to notice. Hopefully it was just my imagination or something got lost in translation.
