Our observations with the lemurs continue. We decided to have breakfast at 6:30 am so that we could be with the lemurs early, around 7:00am. We found restaurant group and were happy to be identifying many of the lemurs. I conducted two focal follows and we took pictures of ourselves using the observer software program to share with the organization that makes the software. Then we noticed that there was a new lemur that we couldn’t identify, then another and another. It was getting a little frustrating as we were spending a long time staring at lemurs that we couldn’t identify. One seems to be a young male who probably moved from being an immature individual to an adult during the past year. Another lemur was quite easy to identify because he has dark lines to his eyes, a few notches in his ears and a distinct freckle. I decided to name him Malcolm after a colleague at U of T. After a good three and a half hours or so with the lemurs we decided to enjoy some natural juice at the cafeteria. We learned that there were some Canadian tourists at the reserve right now. Maybe we will get to meet them later…
