Today, May 11th 2026, we had another meeting of the Red Book Challenge executive. These meetings are open to directors and members. It is easy to become a member! Just email your interest and you can join in one of our 3 annual meetings.
The meeting today got me so energized! A lot is on the go. We have a pen pal program that we are organizing with our “big sister” organization Lemur Love. This program brings young people together from Texas, Ontario and British Columbia and Madagascar to write letters back and forth on the topic of biological conservation.
Members of the pen pal program will recieve copies of our latest publication “How to Draw Lemurs”, created by our amazingly talented, one and only – Madison Schneider of OCAD University. This booklet will have it’s first printing run later this month and we couldn’t be more chuffed (that’s British for excited if you need to know).
We are planning a fundraiser! This is because we have learned the value of conservation clubs from our own scientific assessment. These exciting results will be presented in July by yours truly at the World Conference on Teaching and Education in Copenhagen. I am hoping the scientific research article will find a home in the upcoming special issue of the International Journal of Primatology, titled: Primatology education: Shaping future scholars and conservationists. What fun. Keep your finger’s crossed my applications are accepted. But back to the fundraiser. This was member Valerie Petrie’s idea and I couldn’t support it more. I had the idea of RE-RELEASING the documentary by Devin Sturgeon: “The Madagascar Project: Ten Years Later”. And of course a BOOK LAUNCH for the “how to draw lemurs books”. Fundraisers are fun. It will be this summer sometime…to be continued.
Have I shared with you the blue eyed lemur yet? This little guy is so special. Maybe only 2,400 ring-tailed lemurs exist in Madagascar and here we have a blue eyed lemur? So rare, so special and emblematic of the importance of educating people worldwide to protect nature.
